Middedorp Langebaan as the name would suggest is in the middle of town and one of the oldest suburbs in Langebaan. The development of Langebaan was largely as a result of whaling activities, which stopped in the 1960’s. The large whaling harpoon in front of the municipal offices in town is a reminder of a bygone era. After the 60’s, the town matured from just being a whaling station to being a tourist attraction.

Langebaan experienced a lot of growth in infrastructure towards the end of the 20th century. Present-day properties in Langebaan are a wonderful mixture between the old and the new. Although previously viewed as a holiday town a growing number of people are moving to Langebaan permanently.
